So this is WHY I am a freelance writer...
I have a flair for writing
My writing career started at university during a 12-month work placement at P&O Cruises. It was a role that involved breathing new life into historic personnel policies and writing an employee handbook. After completing the project in record time, I wrote a customer service guide which was published in print and then adapted for the company intranet. The following year I graduated with an Honours Degree in Business Studies from Southampton Solent University.
I'm a creative person with a business head
When I emigrated from the UK to Napier, New Zealand I worked as a contractor on a number of different projects such as writing operational policies, procedures, HR materials and training manuals. But, it was the creative stuff I craved. I had an opportunity to write web copy, flyers and internal comms for a community trust and my passion for creative copywriting was born.
“If you want better relationships with your customers and a voice that communicates your business values – talk to me. I’d love to hear your story.”
Commercial writers are in demand
After having two children, we moved our family to Wellington. I was keen to return to work part-time and after a very frustrating job search, I decided to go out on my own as a freelance writer. Small businesses really needed my writing and marketing skills and I quickly got up to speed with writing website content, blogging, writing for social media and other promotional materials.
Choice Words is launched
When my youngest son started school, I was keen to develop my career and completed a Diploma in Copywriting with the Blackford Centre for Copywriting. This course is all-encompassing and has given me a solid foundation in copywriting for digital and print. I started working for a creative agency in Wellington before the course was finished.
Choice Words was launched in 2018 and continues to grow. I work with marketers, design agencies, communications teams, entrepreneurs and business owners throughout New Zealand and overseas.
I’m a skilled and versatile writer with creative ideas and strong communication skills. I’ve written web copy for digital agencies, case studies for professional services, news articles for councils, brand stories for wineries, taglines for commercial products, blogs for life coaches, landing pages for authors, flyers for property managers, email campaigns for photographers, social-media posts for business owners, personal profiles for real estate agents….and so much more!
It sounds corny, but I love what I do!
Writing is my passion. Not only do I love content writing, but I love copywriting. I love helping my clients tell their stories and grow their businesses. I also love learning. My copywriting and marketing heroes are Joanna Wiebe, Tamsin Anderson, Kate Toon, Alaura Weaver, Luan Wise and Simon Sinek.
