So this is WHY I am a copywriter...
I have a flair for writing
In 2001, my copywriting career started at university when during a 12-month work placement at P&O Cruises. It was an HR role that involved breathing new life into historic personnel policies and writing an employee handbook. After completing the project in record time, I wrote a customer service guide which was published in print and then adapted for the company intranet. The following year I graduated with an Honours Degree in Business Studies from Southampton Solent University.
I'm a creative person with a business head
My passion for people and making change kept me in Human Resources, but a move from the UK to Napier, New Zealand meant being more adaptable in my job search. As a contractor, I worked on projects such as writing operational policies, procedures, and HR materials and training manuals. But, it was the creative stuff I craved. I had an opportunity to write web copy, flyers and internal comms for a community trust and my passion for creative copywriting was born.
“If you want better relationships with your customers and a voice that communicates your business values – talk to me. I’d love to hear your story.”
Copywriters are in demand
After having two children, we moved our family to Wellington. I was keen to return to work part-time and after a very frustrating job search, I decided to go out on my own as a Virtual Assistant. Small businesses really needed my writing skills and it was in this role that I fell back into marketing. I quickly got up to speed with social-media, and found a new love for content marketing.
Choice Words is launched
When my youngest son started school, I hit the books and studied a Diploma in Copywriting with the Blackford Centre for Copywriting. The course was all-encompassing and has given me a solid foundation in copywriting for digital and print. I had secured my first client in Wellington before the course was finished.
Choice Words was launched in 2018. Now, two years later, my business is growing fast. I have spread my wings, reaching clients in Wellington, Auckland and throughout New Zealand. Helping them with web copywriting, SEO, email campaigns, newsletters, flyers, re-branding and more.
It sounds corny, but I love what I do!
Copywriting is my passion. Not only do I love writing, but I love content marketing. I have a parenting blog called LittleMonkeys where I share the shenanigans of being a mum of two boys. I also love learning. My copywriting and marketing heroes are Tamsin Anderson, Kate Toon, Alaura Weaver, Luan Wise and Simon Sinek.
